The Work We Take On
Most of the houses we work on here went up between 1938 and 1996, with the heaviest run in the 1960s and 70s, which means torsion springs and hardware sized for panel styles nobody still stocks new. A lot of these garages still have their original steel sectional doors, and the springs that came with them are decades past their wind count. We handle broken torsion and extension springs, bent tracks, cables that have frayed through, rollers that have worn out of round, and openers that have simply quit after years of use on older drive systems. We also do full door replacements when a panel is too far gone to patch, and new opener installs when the old chain-drive unit stops being worth fixing. Northbrook sits in a cold-moderate climate band, which means winter cold snaps put extra strain on old torsion springs and worn weatherstripping - a good share of our January and February calls are spring failures, not opener trouble. We do not do gate operators or commercial rolling steel doors; if that's what you need, we'll tell you straight instead of taking the job and figuring it out as we go.
How to Reach Us
Call us at (224) 353-7696. Our address is 444 Skokie Blvd, Northbrook, IL 60062, and that's also where our trucks stage out of each morning. If you'd rather look through what we cover before calling, our home page lays out the basics. When you call, tell us the door's make if you know it, whether it's making noise or not moving at all, and roughly how old the house is - that last detail alone tells us a lot about what kind of spring and track hardware we're likely dealing with before we even pull up.
Where We Travel
We're set up at 444 Skokie Blvd in Northbrook and most of our calls come from close by - Techny is about a mile southeast of the shop and one of our shortest drives. From there we cover the towns within a short ring: Glencoe, Riverwoods, and Northfield around four miles out, Bannockburn and Winnetka at five, Prospect Heights at five, and Golf, Highwood, and Lincolnshire around six. Farther out we still take calls in Kenilworth, Niles, Mettawa, Rosemont, and Long Grove, generally in the seven-to-ten-mile range, and we'll go as far as Libertyville, Bensenville, North Chicago, Deer Park, Wood Dale, Franklin Park, Inverness, Hawthorn Woods, Itasca, River Grove, and Elmwood Park when the job and the schedule line up, out around twelve to fourteen miles. Across this area there are roughly 275,099 households and about 132,434 owner-occupied houses, with a median household income around $103,561 - which tends to mean owners who fix a door properly once rather than patch it twice. The farther out the address, the more that same-day timing depends on what else is already on the truck's route that day.
